Rose Parade returns amid COVID surge, sparking joy and unease

After being canceled in 2021 for the first time since World War II, the Rose Parade will return Saturday as a cheerful respite for many from two painful pandemic years. But it also comes at a fraught time, as coronavirus infections and hospitalizations soar again because of the highly contagious Omicron variant.

The famed spectacle will take place with precautions, including the requirement that the 6,000-plus parade participants provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.
