Tens of Thousands of Chickens Killed on the Eve of Yom Kippur Every Year

Even though Jewish law condemns cruelty to animals, every year for ultra-Orthodox kapparot rituals, chickens are transported inside cramped, waste-ridden cages without any food, water, or shelter from the elements. The terrified birds are then swung over participants' heads during the ritual—many getting injured from such rough handling—before their throats are slit and they're stuffed into garbage bags while some are still alive and struggling.

British Wool Exposé Shows Sheep Punched, Stomped On, Slammed to the Ground

The global wool industry is in the hot seat yet again. Video footage from eight exposés of 72 sheep operations on four continents reveals that shearers violently punched sheep in the face, stomped and stood on the animals' heads and necks, and stitched up large, bloody wounds on their bodies—caused by fast, rough shearing—with a needle and thread and no pain relief.
