How we're saving animals' skins

Dear Aaaaaaa,

PETA—and compassionate people like you—are the best hope for the many dogs, rabbits, coyotes, sheep, and others who are suffering for the global skins trade. Together with our affiliates around the world, we're helping to prevent animals from being abused and killed for their fur, skin, and feathers.

These are just a few of the ways we're making vegan fashion hotter than ever:

Designers Are Dropping Fur
After decades of intense campaigning, many longtime PETA targets and designer holdouts are now moving to drop fur and other animal-derived materials.

In the last year alone, Prada, Coach, Versace, Donna Karan, Burberry, and Chanel all agreed to ban fur after pressure from PETA and our international affiliates. Even major fashion industry events are going fur-free—Amsterdam Fashion Week committed to keeping fur off its runways following talks with PETA Netherlands.

Cities and Countries Are Rejecting Fur
Within the last year, we've helped secure the passage of landmark bans on fur sales in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and the movement to outlaw the material is growing stronger with the introduction of PETA-supported legislation in New York City that could one day mean that all shops in the world's fashion capital are fur-free.

And it's not just cities that are rejecting fur—entire countries are doing so, too. Last month, the last fur farm in Germany shut down, nearly three years before a nationwide ban on fur farms was to go into effect. This comes after Serbia's announcement in January of a total ban on fur farming there, a victory years in the making that will keep as many as 12,000 chinchillas from being killed for their skin each year.

Promoting Cruelty-Free Fashion
From magazines to the red carpet, "cruelty-free" has become the buzzword in modern fashion.

Today, more than 1,000 clothing and accessory companies worldwide are authorized to use the "PETA-Approved Vegan" logo, allowing them to showcase their vegan items on product labels and promotional materials—and more are signing up almost every day!

Find Out More
Learn more now about the ways PETA is stopping cruelty in the skins industry. With every designer who swears off fur and every store that refuses to stock the skins of abused animals on its shelves, we're making the world a little kinder. Thank you for helping PETA and our affiliates make this animal-friendly revolution possible.

Sincerely,

Ingrid E. Newkirk
President
