236 lives changed, but many more dogs are waiting

Will you help a cold dog?

Dear Aaaaaaa,

For "outside dogs"—kept chained or confined to a pen and never let indoors—this week will seem like any other as they struggle to stay warm and dry while the winter-like weather bears down on them.

But for some, this holiday season begins with something to be thankful for—a sturdy, straw-filled PETA doghouse that will help them survive the months of bitter cold to come. PETA fieldworkers have already provided 236 dogs with a new doghouse this year, but there are many more who still need our help.

For Ghost, kept chained in a muddy, trash-filled yard, a new PETA doghouse placed on a dry patch of grass will make him a little less cold and miserable.

Brooklyn's "shelter" didn't even have four walls and was little more than a pile of scrap lumber in the corner of a barren yard. Our fieldworkers replaced his heavy chain with a lightweight tie-out and delivered a new PETA doghouse to help him survive the ice and snow of winter.

It's hard to believe that anyone would think that a few pieces of plywood leaning against a fence would give Midnight the protection he needed from winter's chill. Our fieldworkers know that no dog should ever suffer unprotected, but when we can't persuade or compel owners to allow dogs to live indoors, we do all that we can to give them a chance to be a little more comfortable by providing them with a new PETA doghouse.

Thank you for helping a neglected dog this winter in such a life-changing—and -saving—way.

Kind regards,

Ingrid E. Newkirk
President
