WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Tripoli violence threatens civilians, refugees and migrants. In light of ongoing clashes in Libya’s capital, UNHCR has called on all parties to spare civilians and civilian infrastructure and allow safe passage for those seeking refuge in safer areas. Recent shelling of civilian neighbourhoods has caused death, destruction and displacement. Two people were killed and several others injured, including children, at the Fallah 2 Tawergha settlement, which hosts more than 900 displaced Libyans.
Refugee representatives meet South Sudan peace talk parties. Sixteen South Sudanese refugee representatives have met with the parties involved in key peace negotiations in Khartoum. The refugees, who flew in from Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda and Sudan, shared their views and urge participants to find peace for the millions of South Sudanese whose lives have been uprooted by the conflict. According to UNHCR, this dialogue will help ensure that refugee voices continue to play a pivotal role in the revitalized peace effort to end the country’s devastating civil war.
