You're invited to our first By the People Office Hours on Thursday, January 11 from 3-4pm EDT. Join Community Managers in a virtual session to ask questions about transcription, talk to other volunteers, and share what you've learned. Community Managers will also share some updates about the program, and preview upcoming campaigns and new website features. Everyone is welcome, from those who are curious about the program to experienced volunteers! Register to receive a Zoom link for the event.
Join us for Douglass Day on February 14!
Every year on Frederick Douglass' chosen birthday of February 14, people from all over the world celebrate a day of service to Black digital history. In 2024, By the People will be collaborating with Douglass Day organizers to transcribe selections from the Frederick Douglass papers. Sign up to join the virtual program and learn more about organizing your own events to celebrate!
Volunteer hours verification change for 2024
In 2024, Community Managers will no longer sign off on organizational forms, including automated ones, or provide customized letters. Our site doesn't track the amount of time you spend volunteering and so our team is unable to verify your hours beyond the documentation methods described below. Please reach out to us if you have any questions about this change.
We've made several updates to our service documentation tools that may help you track your own hours. On the profile page, you'll now be able to download your recent activity alongside the service letter. This feature is located at the bottom of the "My Contributions" tab. We also added a spreadsheet template to help make calculating and tracking your volunteer hours a little easier. You'll find that right below the service letter download.
