Bureau of Transportation Statistics Upcoming Releases May 7 through May 18
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics will release the following data sets in the next two weeks:
Monday, May 7, 2018 - 11:00am ET The release summarizes net profit, operating profit, operating revenue and operating expenses for the U.S. scheduled service passenger airlines for systemwide, domestic and international operations. The BTS third quarter release said that U.S. scheduled passenger airlines reported an after-tax net profit of $3.7 billion in the third quarter of 2017, down from $4.7 billion in the second quarter and down from $3.8 billion in the third quarter of 2016. Additional financial numbers for all airlines will be available on the BTS financial databases.
Tuesday, May 8, 2018 - 11:00am ET BTS Airline Fuel Cost and Consumption database to be updated with March data. Last month, US airlines February fuel cost was $2.06 per gallon, up two cents from January ($2.04) and up 36 cents from February 2017 ($1.70). Industry summary of airline fuel consumption, total fuel cost and price paid per gallon are available on the database. Individual airline numbers through December will available on the TS website at 11 a.m. today.
Wednesday, May 9, 2018 - 11:00am ET BTS Airline Employment database to be updated with March data. Last month, U.S. airlines February employment (702,807 total full-time and part-time)) was down 0.1pct from January, up 2.0pct from February 2017. Monthly full-time and part-time employment statistics reported by U.S. airlines that operate at least one aircraft that has more than 60 seats or the capacity to carry a payload of passengers, cargo and fuel weighing more than 18,000 pounds. Includes passenger and cargo airlines.
Wednesday, May 9, 2018 - 11:30am ET The Freight TSI measures the month-to-month changes in for-hire freight shipments by mode of transportation. The Passenger TSI measures the month-to-month changes in travel that involves the services of the for-hire passenger transportation sector. Last month, BTS reported that the Freight TSI fell 0.1 percent in February from January.
Thursday, May 10, 2018 - 11:00am ET U.S. airlines monthly passengers, revenue passenger-miles, available seat-miles and load factor for systemwide, domestic and international. Numbers are seasonally-adjusted and unadjusted. In the previous release for January, U.S. airlines systemwide (domestic and international) scheduled service passenger enplanements fell to 71.6 million, 0.8 percent fewer than in December, seasonally-adjusted, after growing three consecutive months from October 2017 to December 2017.
Thursday, May 17, 2018 - 11:00am ET The release details full-time equivalent (FTE) employment numbers for U.S. scheduled service passenger airlines. Last month, BTS reported that U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 3.0 percent more workers in February 2018 than in February 2017. February was the highest monthly full-time equivalent (FTE) employment total (432,232 FTEs) since December 2004 (436,909 FTEs) and was the 52nd consecutive month that U.S. scheduled passenger airline FTEs exceeded the same month of the previous year.
