Support Clerk (Temporary)

The Library of Congress is accepting applications for Support Clerk, GS-05, until June 13, 2023.

The Office of Copyright Records (CR) is responsible for preserving, maintaining, and servicing copyright-related records in physical and digital formats. The staff of CR retrieve records for court cases and public research, perform certified searches and write search reports based on copyright registered materials and other copyright records, and provide certified and non-certified copies of copyright deposits, additional certificates, and other copyright records, maintain the official records of the U.S. Copyright Office, and respond to inspection requests from members of the public or Congress. CR staff also record into a public database recordation documents pertaining to copyright ownership, including transfers of copyright ownership. The work CR executes contributes to and supports the world's largest database of copyright ownership.

The incumbent as trained and directed by the superior, operates online request portal system to receive record book requests for fulfillment and digitization. Retrieves requested books and reviews retrieved materials to ascertain if preservation services are needed prior to digitization. Sends identified materials for preservation, following training and direction from superiors. Prepares and organizes record book shipments for distribution to the digitization contractor for processing. Retrieves and returns record books to proper storage after processing. Reviews digital images and metadata for technical correctness of content, format, and design. All work assigned must be performed within identified time frames and deadlines.

As trained and directed by the superior, assists staff in locating records for digitization and other record collection modernization Efforts. Using approved methods, tracks materials provided to contractors and others to ensure chain of custody. Reconciles activities between different categories of records collections, such as record books and microfilm. Using approved methods, tracks and documents the number of errors to confirm compliance with the Quality Assurance Surveillance Plan (QASP). Develops tracking spreadsheets and other tools for use in performing inventory tasks associated with record collections. Submits and receives approval to use all tools before use. Performs inventory data entry to inventory record collections. Assists with ingesting modernized record content into the CTS ingest system. All work assigned must be performed within identified time frames and deadlines.

As assigned, keyboards memoranda, reports, requests, and other routine written materials needed by supervisor and other staff. May distribute mail and other materials as required. May order office supplies and maintains an adequate supply of regularly used items as directed. Answers the telephone at all times while on duty, refers calls to the appropriate staff member or the supervisor. Promptly responds to emails and other official job-related communications. Performs other clerical duties as assigned. All work assigned must be performed within identified time frames and deadlines.
