MCC's Jonathan Saiger Honored with Presidential Medal

On February 20, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, awarded the Presidential Medal of Merits to the Millennium Challenge Corporation's (MCC) Jonathan Saiger for his special contribution towards the economic development and promotion of democracy in Kosovo, as a project lead for the MCC-Kosovo Compact. 

MCC is deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved colleague Tom Hohenthaner. As the agency's Acting Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary, Tom was an essential member of MCC's senior leadership team and a respected colleague who exemplified compassion and teamwork in all that he did. 
In this episode, MCC Director of Gender and Social Inclusion, Krista Rigalo, and DigiFemmes Program Director, Nadine Zoro, discuss how DigiFemmes empowers women entrepreneurs, such as Linda Dempah, with 21st-century skills to future-proof their careers and help their businesses thrive. 
On February 27, CEO Alice Albright began a three-day visit to Freetown, Sierra Leone. Accompanied by U.S. Ambassador David Reimer, CEO Albright will be conducting bilateral meetings to advance the development of the nation's compact grant program. The Sierra Leone compact aims to increase the availability of affordable and reliable electricity to satisfy demand among households, businesses, and social institutions. 
In a recent interview, Deputy CEO Mahmoud Bah spoke with Voice of America about the $504 million Benin-Niger Regional Transport Compact and its efforts to promote cross-border economic integration and trade, eliminating bottlenecks between the two countries. 
A lack of trained workers in Morocco is one of the major factors constraining economic growth in the country. Learn how the Bakery and Pastry Training Institute, one of 15 MCC-funded Technical and Vocational Education and Training centers, will meet the demand for skilled bakers and pastry chefs, improve job placement rates, and raise incomes.
On February 1, Deputy CEO Mahmoud Bah met with Mozambique's Minister of Economy and Finance, Ernesto Max Tonela, to sign an aide memoire reaffirming the U.S. and Mozambique's commitment to critical public and institutional reforms prior to the conclusion of compact development. These reforms will support planned compact programs promoting investment in agriculture, transportation infrastructure, climate change, and coastal development.
On February 15, Deputy CEO Mahmoud Bah traveled to Togo to thank the Government and stakeholders for their ongoing efforts to expand access to high-quality and affordable Information and Communications Technology services through the MCC - Togo Threshold program and to discuss next steps in compact development.

Bay Area Roadshow  | March 21 - 24
MCC Deputy Vice President for Congressional and Public Affairs, Nicholas Bassey, will travel to California to participate in the 
Africa Diaspora Investment Symposium, discuss career opportunities in international development with students at the University of California, Berkeley and engage with Congressional staff.


Connective Impact Event  | March 23 
Connective Impact will host MCC's Eric Trachtenberg and Carolyn Wetzel Chen to speak about MCC's work in the Agriculture and Health space. This event is open to the public.
