Thanks for participating in Unshaken, The Times' six-week guide to earthquake readiness and resilience. We're following up periodically with reminders to help you stay on top of your planning and preparation.
Today's topic: reviewing or finalizing your family emergency plans.
You want to occasionally review your plans with your family — every six months is a good rule of thumb. So put the finishing touches on any plans you started during the first six weeks of Unshaken and set a time to review. Here are some essentials for any plan.
See who in the household has special requirements (use of a wheelchair, walking aids, medications, etc.) then identify who in the neighborhood has skills to assist (nurses, paramedics, aides).
Create a list of important contacts, including everyone in the household, workplaces, schools, doctor's offices and someone out of state.
Make copies of essential documents and keep them in a safe place.
Know where you can go in case you can't remain in your home.
