Bureau of Transportation Statistics Upcoming Releases July 16 through July 27
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics will release the following data sets in the next two weeks:
Tuesday, July 17, 2018 - 11:00am ET Domestic average itinerary fares for the January-March 2018 quarter in inflation adjusted dollars and current dollars. Last quarter, BTS reported that fourth-quarter 2017 average domestic air fare rose to $347, rising 3.0 percent from $337 in the third quarter of 2016, which was the lowest inflation-adjusted quarterly average fare in 23 years of air fare records
Thursday, July 19, 2018 - 11:00am ET The release details full-time equivalent (FTE) employment numbers for U.S. scheduled service passenger airlines. Last month, BTS reported that U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 3.0 percent more workers in April 2018 than in April 2017. April was the highest monthly full-time equivalent (FTE) employment total (436,610 FTEs) since December 2004 (436,909 FTEs) and was the 54th consecutive month that U.S. scheduled passenger airline FTEs exceeded the same month of the previous year.
Wednesday, July 25, 2018 - 11:00am ET The release summarizes the value of freight transported in May by truck, rail and other modes between the U.S. and Canada and the U.S. and Mexico with the top states, ports and commodities. Last month, BTS reported that the top two modes for those freight movements were truck and rail. Trucks moved freight valued at $65.7 billion, up 15.3 percent compared to April 2017. Rail moved freight valued at $14.7 billion, down 1.5 percent during the same period.

Tuesday, July 10, 2018 US airlines May fuel cost was $2.19 per gallon, up 11 cents from April ($2.08) and up 59 cents from May 2017 ($1.60). Industry summary of airline fuel consumption, total fuel cost and price paid per gallon are available on the database. Individual airline numbers through March are available on the BTS website.
Wednesday, July 11, 2018 U.S. airlines May employment (702,807 total full-time and part-time)), up 0.4pct from April, up 2.6pct from May 2017 (passenger+cargo). Monthly full-time and part-time employment statistics are reported by U.S. airlines that operate at least one aircraft that has more than 60 seats or the capacity to carry a payload of passengers, cargo and fuel weighing more than 18,000 pounds.
Thursday, July 12, 2018 The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, rose 1.0 percent in May from April, reaching a new all-time high after falling slightly in April. The index rose 6.4 percent from May 2017. The May 2018 index level (135.6) was 43.0 percent above the April 2009 low during the most recent recession.
Friday, July 13, 2018 U.S. airlines carried a new seasonally-adjusted high of 73.8 million systemwide (domestic and international) scheduled service passengers in April 2018, up 0.9 percent from March for the third consecutive monthly increase.
