Trump's tax returns are out. Here's how he was able to pay so little - so often.

Former President Trump and his wife, Melania, paid $750 or less in federal income tax in 2016 and 2017, and zero in 2020, according to tax returns released by the House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees tax legislation. The disclosures raise multiple questions about whether Trump's tax strategies simply took advantage of the law or broke it.

The release of six years of returns - redacted to hide Social Security numbers and other private information - marked the final act of a seven-year saga that outlasted Trump's presidency and included two trips to the Supreme Court as Trump resisted public disclosure of his financial records.
