One was a Riverside County sheriff's deputy new to motorcycle patrol who friends say gave all to his job. The other was a three-time convicted felon who had a history of trying to evade police, which sometimes led to violent confrontations.
A traffic stop Thursday on a suburban street ended with the deputy dead and the felon leading police on a chase that would end with his own death. The violence has left a community in mourning and trying to make sense of what happened.
