Dear Aaaaaaa,

Happy holidays to you and all those you care about—certainly including any two-legged, four-legged, feathered, or finned family members!

When Hurricane Florence slammed into the East Coast of the U.S. in September, Max—pictured above—was left behind inside his family's home. This poor, totally confused dog ran through the house looking for safety as the waters quickly rose and kept rising. He didn't know it, but help was on the way.

PETA's Emergency Rescue Team was going door to door in affected neighborhoods, wading through the filthy water and looking for animals in need. As team members entered the waterlogged home, they all feared that Max hadn't survived. But he was resourceful, climbing his way to safety on a kitchen counter to escape the rising water and the debris.

Max was scared, but his wagging tail showed that he was eager to let our rescue team help him. Seeing his smile upon being rescued reminds me how resilient and forgiving animals can be. But animals shouldn't need to be so resilient.

Together, not only did we help rescue animals like Max who were at risk because of disaster, this year we also brought relief to those facing suffering for their skin, death in a grisly slaughterhouse, pain at the hands of experimenters, and more. You and other PETA members changed the world for the better for countless animals, each one a feeling individual. I hope that warms your heart!

I also hope you can spend the holidays surrounded by those you care about. And when your heart is feeling full, please think about Max and all the other animals in dire straits who—thanks to you—we were able to help this past year.

Thank you once again for your generous support, passionate commitment, and respect for animals.

—Ingrid and all of us at PETA

P.S. Please consider opening your heart even further to animals this holiday season by making a special year-end gift.
