Bureau of Transportation Statistics Upcoming Releases June 18 through June 29 The Bureau of Transportation Statistics will release the following data sets in the next two weeks:
Tuesday, June 19, 2018 - 11:00am ET The release details full-time equivalent (FTE) employment numbers for U.S. scheduled service passenger airlines. Last month, BTS reported that U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 2.8 percent more workers in March 2018 than in March 2017. March was the highest monthly full-time equivalent (FTE) employment total (434,243 FTEs) since December 2004 (436,909 FTEs) and was the 53rd consecutive month that U.S. scheduled passenger airline FTEs exceeded the same month of the previous year.
Tuesday, June 26, 2018 - 11:00am ET The release summarizes the value of freight transported in April by truck, rail and other modes between the U.S. and Canada and the U.S. and Mexico with the top states, ports and commodities. Last month, BTS reported that the top two modes for those freight movements were truck and rail. Trucks moved freight valued at $66.5 billion, up 4.1 percent compared to March 2017. BTS has released the following:
Wednesday, June 13, 2018 The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, fell 0.1 percent in April from March, falling after reaching an all-time high in March. The index rose 7.7 percent from April 2017 and remains at its second highest level. The April 2018 index level (134.3) was 41.7 percent above the April 2009 low during the most recent recession.
Thursday, May 10, 2018 - 11:00am ET U.S. airlines' March systemwide (domestic and international) scheduled service passenger enplanements rose 0.2 percent from February, rising to 73.1 million to reach a new all-time seasonally-adjusted high, rising for the second consecutive month.
Monday, June 18, 2018 The release summarizes net profit, operating profit, operating revenue and operating expenses for the U.S. scheduled service passenger airlines for systemwide, domestic and international operations. U.S. scheduled passenger airlines reported an after-tax net profit of $1.7 billion in 1Q 2018, down from $5.1 billion in 4Q 2017 and down from $1.9 billion in 1Q 2017.
