On July 14, 2026, the United Kingdom’s Home Office announced that it had accepted recommendations to allow the police in England and Wales to use artificial intelligence to review and summarize evidence to satisfy the disclosure test. That test governs the prosecution’s obligation to share with the defense any materials gathered that are not used in the prosecution. The recommendations to update the rules are primarily contained in the Independent Review of Disclosure and Fraud Offences (Disclosure and Fraud Review) commissioned by the government, along with some recommendations from the Independent Review of the Criminal Courts Part II: Volume 1 (Criminal Courts Review)....
