MCC Climate Commitment

On April 22, MCC released its Climate Commitment Statement with ambitious goals to expand and deepen the agency's investments in climate-smart development and sustainable infrastructure, proudly joining the Biden-Harris Administration and agencies across the U.S. Government in the fight against climate change. 

MCC has been a leader on climate-smart development and sustainable infrastructure among U.S. Government foreign assistance agencies since its founding in 2004. In the past five years alone, MCC has invested $1.5 billion - representing 38 percent of its program funds - towards programs in critical sectors like energy, water, transportation, and agriculture that foster adaptation, mitigation, and resilience to climate change. Additionally, the agency expects to invest more than half a billion dollars in climate-smart programs for 2021.

MCC joins the Government of Liberia in celebrating the successful completion of a $257 million compact designed to help expand access to reliable energy and increase  water supply to the 1.1 million residents of Liberia's capital city - Monrovia.

The Millennium Challenge Account Niger is celebrating three years of building roads, improving irrigation, and strengthening agriculture in Niger as part of its $437 million compact, starting construction on two key roads that will allow farmers to better reach markets and available services.
Microsoft and MCC signed a memorandum of understanding April 20 to help support women entrepreneurs and women-led Small and Medium Enterprises (W-SMEs) with the development of digital skills necessary to grow businesses. 
MCC and Mongolia celebrated the launch of a $350 million Water Compact on April 5. The program will address the impending water crisis in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar and help expand the sustainable supply of water.

How to Work with MCC Webinar with MEDEF International, May 4 
Jason Small and Mitsi Sellers will lead a presentation on how MCC operates in partner countries and how to work with us. They will focus on the procurement process for MCC funded projects, partnership opportunities, and MCC's collaboration with private sector. MEDEF International is a non-profit private-funded organization, created in 1989. It consists of about 7100 French companies operating worldwide, and 85 Business Councils headed by 55 CEOs of major international French companies. 

Women in Global Development Leadership Forum, May 4-6
MCC will send 11 representatives to the annual Women Innovators and Leaders Network's Women in Global Development Leadership Forum. They will join 900 participants from 120 countries to discuss advancing women's leadership, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the global development sector. 
 
West Springfield Rotary Club Meeting, May 5 
James Girard will lead a discussion with the West Springfield VA Rotary Club about MCC operations in Africa, particularly Sierra Leone. 
 
Society for International Development-Washington (SID-W)
Annual Conference, May 25-26 
MCC will participate in a high-level plenary session on climate change on day two of SID-W's Annual Conference.
