Media Blitz starts Friday, November 17th - 11 am EST

buzzed 200Thanksgiving Eve - the Wednesday before the holiday, has become one of the year's biggest drinking days. Whether it's young people home from college or adults who know they have the next day off from work, Thanksgiving Eve has contributed to a rise in drunk driving deaths around the holiday.

To make our roads safer around Thanksgiving, NHTSA is organizing a one-day, highway safety community media blitz.

  • What: Join NHTSA by sending a powerful, loud, and unified message to news organizations and reporters across the country at the exact same time.

  • When: Friday, November 17 at 11 a.m. EST

  • How: Issue a press release warning the public about the dangers of drinking and driving around the Thanksgiving holiday.
  • Why: Getting behind the wheel after drinking on Thanksgiving Eve can lead to an empty chair at Thanksgiving dinner.
