Buzzed DrivingThanksgiving Eve - the Wednesday before the holiday, has become one of the year's biggest drinking days. Whether it's young people home from college or adults who know they have the next day off from work, Thanksgiving Eve has contributed to a rise in drunk driving deaths around the holiday.

To make our roads safer around Thanksgiving, NHTSA is organizing a 36-hour, highway safety community SOCIAL MEDIA blitz.

  • What: This will be a blitz where NHTSA and our partners will send one unified message through our social media channels: Don't Drink and Drive During the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Please join us by sharing our posts on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, and by engaging with your followers with your own posts.
  • When: Starting at noon EST on Tuesday, November 21, thru midnight EST on Wednesday, November 22.

  • How: Using our social media channels warn the public about the dangers of drinking and driving around the Thanksgiving holiday. We're using #buzzeddriving and #designateddriver to connect.

  • Why: Getting behind the wheel after drinking on Thanksgiving Eve can lead to an empty chair at Thanksgiving dinner.
