MCC and USADF Promote Women-led SMEs


On October 27, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the U.S. African Development Foundation (USADF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote the growth of women-led small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Africa through DigiFemmes. 

Launched in 2021 in collaboration with MCC, the US Agency for International Development, Microsoft, and local partners, DigiFemmes is a program offering women entrepreneurs training in digital and data skills to expand their businesses.

Earlier this month, MCC CEO Albright, along with staff from the Department of Congressional and Public Affairs, had a successful roadshow in Atlanta. During the trip, MCC met with staff members from the offices of three members of Congress, interacted with more than 250 private sector representatives through the Atlanta Black Chamber of Commerce, and held productive discussions with a dynamic group assembled by USGLC. Albright also participated in two events sponsored by The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at Georgia Tech where she engaged with students, faculty, and private sector representatives. The trip concluded with a meeting between Albright and Paige Alexander, CEO of The Carter Center, where they discussed future collaborations between MCC and the Center to achieve shared development goals.
On November 6, Peter Jaffe joined MCC as Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. Prior to MCC, Jaffe served as the Deputy Chair of the anti-corruption practice group at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, where he provided legal advice and strategic guidance on complex international matters.

On November 15, MCC's Vice President of Compact Operations, Cameron Alford, traveled to Lusaka, Zambia and signed a $12 million grant agreement with the Zambian Minister of Finance and National Planning, Musokotwane, to further the development of the proposed compact. This grant will finance the design of programs that will strengthen agriculture and achieve greater food security for Zambia.
On November 7, MCC released its FY 2024 Country Scorecards, a key component of MCC's selection process. The FY24 scorecards also included two changes to the education indicators related to how MCC assesses a country's commitment to strengthening its education system.

On November 17, Representatives Adam Smith and Joe Wilson introduced a resolution celebrating MCC's 20th anniversary. Read the full resolution to learn how MCC's impactful solutions promote economic growth, reduce poverty, and strengthen institutions.
