Powering an Energy Secure Future for Benin 

On June 22, MCC CEO Alice Albright, U.S. Ambassador to Benin, Brian Shukan, Beninese Minister of State for Development, Abdoulaye Bio Tchané, Minister of Energy, Water and Mines, Samou Seidou Adambi, and Secretary of State for Energy, Edouard Dahomé, celebrated the completion of the $422.6 million Benin Power Compact in Cotonou. 

The five-year investment aims to improve energy accessibility and fortify Benin's power sector. As part of this effort, U.S. and Benin officials inaugurated the newly constructed national electricity dispatch and control center funded by the compact.


On June 28, MCC's Board of Directors approved the $500 million Mozambique Connectivity and Coastal Resilience Compact to improve transport connectivity in rural areas and the $29.1 million Kiribati Threshold Program to promote inclusive employment opportunities.  

On June 13, MCC CEO Alice Albright and Wilson Center CEO Ambassador Mark Green discussed what's next for MCC - ahead of our upcoming 20th Anniversary and how the model is addressing today's global challenges.

On June 7, CEO Alice Albright participated in the 2023 USGLC Global Impact Forum and explored how the United States Government and its private sector partners can harness economic, security, and diplomatic tools to stabilize emerging global markets. 
Irene Pazou, the owner of Ice Palace in Benin, encountered challenges as a woman entrepreneur, such as unstable electricity, limited access to financing, and a lack of business tools. MCC partnered with the Beninese government to tackle these issues. Discover how the $391 million Benin Power Compact created the Women's Energy Entrepreneurship initiative to empower women entrepreneurs in the energy sector.
Accra's week-long power outage last September emphasized the importance of reliable data to detect and monitor city outages in Ghana. To accurately measure the impact of its energy programs, MCC collaborated with the USAID-funded Development Impact Lab to pilot GridWatch, a high-frequency data collection system. 15th Annual U.S.-Africa Business Summit | July 11 - 14
At this year's annual summit in Botswana, MCC's Vice President for Congressional and Public Affairs, Aysha House, and Deputy Vice President, Nicholas Bassey, will represent MCC in a range of activities designed to share "industry-tested solutions to today's business challenges in agribusiness, finance, energy, health, infrastructure, ICT, creative industries and more."
