The Bureau of Transportation Statistics will release the following data sets in the next two weeks:
Tuesday, Oct. 9 - 11:00am ET BTS Airline Employment database to be updated with August data. Last month, U.S. airlines July employment (721,572 total full-time and part-time)) was up 0.7 percent from June and up 3.0 percent from July 2017. Monthly full-time and part-time employment statistics reported by U.S. airlines that operate at least one aircraft that has more than 60 seats or the capacity to carry a payload of passengers, cargo and fuel weighing more than 18,000 pounds. Includes passenger and cargo airlines.
Thursday, Oct. 11 - 11:30am ET The Freight TSI measures the month-to-month changes in for-hire freight shipments by mode of transportation. The Passenger TSI measures the month-to-month changes in travel that involves the services of the for-hire passenger transportation sector. In the previous release for July, BTS reported that the Freight TSI fell 0.9 percent in July from June, falling after reaching an all-time high in June. The index was up 4.8 percent from July 2017.
Friday, Oct. 12 - 11:00am ET Beginning this month, BTS estimates air traffic data for August and September based on reported data through July. U.S. airlines monthly passengers, revenue passenger-miles, available seat-miles and load factor for systemwide, domestic and international. Numbers are seasonally-adjusted and unadjusted. In the previous release for June, U.S. airlines carried a new seasonally-adjusted high of 74.8 million systemwide (domestic and international) scheduled service passengers, up 1.0 percent from May for the fifth consecutive monthly increase.
Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018 - 11:00am ET Domestic average itinerary fares for the April-June 2018 quarter in inflation adjusted dollars and current dollars. Last quarter, BTS reported that the first-quarter 2018 average domestic air fare fell to $346, down 1.1 percent from the fourth quarter of 2017 and down 3.7 percent from the first quarter of 2017.
Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018 - 11:00am ET The release details full-time equivalent (FTE) employment numbers for U.S. scheduled service passenger airlines. Last month, BTS reported that U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 3.6 percent more workers in July 2018 than in July 2017. July was the highest monthly full-time equivalent (FTE) employment total (443,475 FTEs) since July 2004 (444,431 FTEs) and was the 57th consecutive month that U.S. scheduled passenger airline FTEs exceeded the same month of the previous year. BTS has released the following:
Sept. 25 For the first time, the Air Travel Consumer Report included marketing carrier and regional code share on-time numbers as well as operating carrier numbers. Numbers for previous months in 2018 were also released. The marketing carriers reported an on-time rate of 76.0 percent in July and a cancellation rate of 1.8 percent. The reporting carriers posted an on-time arrival rate of 75.9 percent, down from the 76.6 percent on-time rate in June 2018 and down from 76.9 percent in July 2017. Reporting carriers canceled 1.7 percent of their scheduled domestic flights, equal to the 1.7 percent cancellation rate in May 2018 and up from 1.1 percent in July 2017.

Thursday, Oct. 4 U.S. airlines August fuel cost was $2.20 per gallon, unchanged from July ($2.20) and up 57 cents from August 2017 ($1.63). Industry summary of airline fuel consumption, total fuel cost and price paid per gallon are available on the database. Individual airline numbers through June are available on the BTS website.
