Bureau of Transportation Statistics Upcoming Releases

April 9 through April 20

 

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics will release the following data sets in the next two weeks:

 

  • Transportation Services Index (TSI), February 2018
Wednesday, April 11, 2018 - 11:30am ET
The Freight TSI measures the month-to-month changes in for-hire freight shipments by mode of transportation. The Passenger TSI measures the month-to-month changes in travel that involves the services of the for-hire passenger transportation sector. Last month, BTS reported that the Freight TSI fell 0.4 percent in January from December, falling after reaching an all-time high in December.

  • Airline Traffic Data, January 2018
Thursday, April 12, 2018 - 11:00am ET
U.S. airlines monthly passengers, revenue passenger-miles, available seat-miles and load factor for systemwide, domestic and international. Numbers are seasonally-adjusted and unadjusted. In 2017, U.S. airlines carried an all-time high number of passengers – 849.3 million systemwide, 741.6 million domestic and 107.7 million international – surpassing the previous high reached in 2016

  • Average Air Fares, 4th Quarter 2017 Passenger Airline Employment, February 2018Total full-time equivalent employees (FTEs) for U.S. scheduled service

Domestic average itinerary fares for the October-December 2017 quarter in inflation adjusted dollars and current dollars. In the third quarter, the average domestic air fare decreased to $336, the lowest inflation-adjusted quarterly fare in 23 years of air fare records.

  • Passenger Airline Employment, February 2018
Thursday, April 19, 2018 - 11:00am ET
Total full-time equivalent employees (FTEs) for U.S. scheduled service passenger airlines. In January, U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 431,308 FTEs, the highest monthly FTE total since December 2004 (436,909 FTE).

  • National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD) Spring Update

NTAD is a compilation of geospatial data sets representing the nation's transportation infrastructure, containing roadways, railways, and airports.

BTS has released the following:

 

  • Airline Fuel Cost and Consumption, February 2018
Tuesday, April 3, 2018 - 11:00am ET
US airlines February fuel cost was $2.06 per gallon, up two cents from January ($2.04) and up 36 cents from February 2017 ($1.70). Industry summary of airline fuel consumption, total fuel cost and price paid per gallon are available on the database. Individual airline numbers through September are available on the BTS website
  • Airline Full-Time/Part-Time Employment, February 2018 
Monday, April 9, 2018 - 11:00am ET
U.S. airlines February employment (702,807 total full-time and part-time)) down 0.1pct from January, up 2.0pct from February 2017 (passenger+cargo). Monthly full-time and part-time employment statistics reported by U.S. airlines that operate at least one aircraft that has more than 60 seats or the capacity to carry a payload of passengers, cargo and fuel weighing more than 18,000 pounds.
