This series of classes is designed to shed light on some of the foreign and comparative law issues currently being researched by the foreign law and international law experts at the Law Library of Congress. October 27, 2026, is the date set for Israel's next national election. In this presentation, Ruth will discuss the legal developments unfolding in the lead up to the election. The webinar will examine government efforts to advance legal reforms introduced after the outgoing governments inauguration. The reforms intended to affect the status and relationship among the branches of government and have been subject of public debate. A review of the current status of the reforms will be provided. Among additional topics that will be discussed are legislation relating to the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack and the subsequent war, and the military conscription of Ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) men.
