Join the GWOW Welcome Ambassador Team!

The interest form to be a 2018 Georgetown Weeks of Welcome (GWOW) Welcome Ambassador is now live! Weeks of Welcome is about sustaining that energy built up from NSO, and getting new (and returning) students hyped about coming back to the Hilltop. Welcome Ambassadors help enhance students' transition by participating, planning, and leading all of the excitement that GWOW has planned for the fall, such as the Welcome Back Jack BBQ, Color Run, Taste of the Hilltop, and more!

Encourage your student to get involved today and to make the transition back to campus for new and returning students as seamless and fun as possible!

For more information about GWOW, please visit our website at https://orientation.georgetown.edu/gwow or send us an email at gwow@georgetown.edu.

The interest form can be found here: tinyurl.com/gwowform. The deadline for submission is March 16 at 11:59PM. Also remind your student of our information session, which will be held in the Arrupe Multipurpose Room on March 14 at 9:00PM.
Counseling and Psychiatric Service (CAPS) is offering two new workshops this spring:

Anxiety Toolbox is a 3-part series that focuses on helping you understand anxiety symptoms and build skills to manage these symptoms. The three sessions are divided into content that builds upon itself. The sessions include modules dedicated to:
  1. Understanding anxiety,
  2. Introducing a method for slowing down and disentangling the experience of anxiety, and
  3. Developing alternative responses to anxiety. By the end of the workshop, you will have your own individualized plan for managing anxiety.

Seeking Serenity is informed by dialectical behavior therapy and is designed for students who experience overwhelming emotions that feel difficult to manage. The three sessions are divided into content that builds upon itself. The sessions include modules dedicated to:
  1. Distress tolerance
  2. Emotion regulation, and
  3. Mindfulness. By the end of the workshop, you will have strategies for better managing overwhelming emotions.

Each workshop will run in February, again in March, and again in April. Days and times to be determined. Please contact CAPS (202-687-6985) to enroll.
In an effort to ensure that the Academic Resource Center is reaching ALL of our students, we have expanded our academic resources to include a new academic webinar series!
  • Don't have the time to make it to an ARC workshop, but still want to make sure you are staying on track with your academics?
  • Are you looking for new strategies to study effectively?
  • Need answers to your academic questions?
Each webinar will highlight a different academic theme and allow students to participate in a Q&A session to address any of their academic questions.

Cawley Career Education Center

It is March, and with that, students' fears can take hold as they wonder if it is too late to get an internship by summer, or a job after graduation. While consulting and finance recruiting timelines are mostly in the fall, there are plenty of employers still hiring. In fact, we have 5,000 jobs and internships posted on our recruiting platform, Handshake, at this very moment. Seriously, 5,000! Of course, we know there are more ways to find an internship or job than using a job posting site. Encourage your student to come in to the career center to learn about targeting organizations where they want to intern or work, and of course, networking with professionals who have careers of interests. And some students may not be there yet. We also offer programming and 1:1 assistance to help students explore their skills, interests, and values. Please encourage your student to engage with us, whether they have a clear sense of interests or are exploring widely! Here is the latest news to share with your student.
  • We offer career seminars for all class levels. First and second year students will walk away with a better sense of who they are after attending a workshop. Juniors and seniors will build a career story and a job search strategy that will help them move forward with confidence. Students can RSVP in Handshake.
  • Employers are still coming on campus to speak to students this month, including Dataminr, Citi, Defense Intelligence Agency, Rothschild, Lime Connect, Oracle, Barclays, JMP Securities, Network for Victim Recovery in DC, and more!
  • Given our large international student population, we have added more programming this spring to serve this population. We have three events in March, including Ins and Outs of Visas with an Immigration Lawyer, Employers Tell All, and an Alumni who works at Deloitte sharing her success story in finding work in the U.S.
  • We have hired a STEM + Health Industry Advisor. Jodi Schneiderman has 10+ years in higher education working with a variety of disciplines. She has Master's degrees in I/O Psychology and Counseling. In addition, she has worked in the mental health field as well as the information technology field as a Change Management Specialist for Harley-Davidson Motor Company. She will advise students 1:1 and help bridge the connection between employers and students.
We hope you will sign up for our general newsletter and/or any relevant newsletters, so you can stay informed of the latest jobs and events. If your organization is looking to hire interns or full-time positions, please post an internship or job on our recruiting platform, Handshake!
