2018 National Distracted Driving Enforcement

April 12-16, 2018

  Distracted Driving Prevention

In recognition of April's National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, NHTSA has planned a number of activities. We are also kicking off its national highly visible enforcement campaign for distracted driving: U Drive. U Text. U Pay., which is supported by English and Spanish language television, radio, and digital advertising.

NHTSA has also developed a robust social media strategy designed to raise public awareness about the consequences of texting and driving. The focus is on the idea that "If you're texting, you're not driving." We anticipate that this message will engage the target audience of men and women 18-34 (slightly skewed toward women) with creative and persuasive messaging on NHTSA social media channels and their media partners.

Paid advertising will run April 9-16, 2018

MEDIA ADVISORY

BTS Releases December Airline Fuel Cost and Consumption Data

The Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today updated its Airline Fuel Cost and Consumption web page with preliminary December data.

Cost per gallon for U.S. airlines' scheduled services:

December 2016                                   $1.59

November 2017                                   $1.87

December 2017                                   $1.91

The page provides scheduled service cost and consumption numbers. Use the "Select a Service" dropdown to see all services or non-scheduled services.

The Fuel Cost and Consumption page can be found here: http://www.transtats.bts.gov/fuel.asp Summaries by month are also available.

Preliminary fuel cost and consumption numbers are industry summaries only. Airline fuel costs may be affected by hedging, contracts that allow airlines to limit exposure to future changes in fuel prices. The next monthly web update is scheduled for March 6.

Individual airline numbers through September are available on the BTS website. Individual airline numbers for October, November and December will be available on the BTS website with the BTS fourth-quarter 2017 financial release on May 7.
