We all love to celebrate the 4th of July with family, friends, food, and fireworks, but all too often the festivities turn tragic on our nation's roads. The fact is, this American holiday also brings increased drinking and impaired driving with potential deadly consequences: - From 2018 to 2022, there were 2,228 traffic crash fatalities during the Fourth of July holiday period.
- 487 people died in motor vehicle crashes over the July 4th holiday period in 2022.
This 4th of July, NHTSA focuses on social norming campaigns. However, enforcement material is available for areas that choose to plan high-visibility enforcement. -
