Summit for Democracy: NED and MCC
Host Leaders from The Gambia and Cote d'Ivoire

On March 28, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) co-hosted a panel discussion with government and civil society leaders in The Gambia and Cote d'Ivoire. Panelists highlighted the importance of transparent and accountable governance and having strong democratic institutions that can effectively respond to and deliver on citizens' demands. 

Also during the Summit for Democracy, MCC hosted a second event on March 30, bringing together stakeholders from international labor rights groups and disability rights' organizations to discuss how the recently added Employment Opportunity Indicator on MCC's scorecard can encourage countries to undertake reforms in these areas. 

U.S. and Morocco Celebrate Completion of $460.5M Employability and Land Compact


On March 16, MCC and the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco celebrated the upcoming closure of the $460.5 million Employability and Land Compact, which expanded education and employment opportunities and improved land productivity for thousands of Moroccans. This milestone achievement on March 31, 2023, marks the end of a very successful partnership, which helped to support sustainable economic growth and strengthen the bonds between the United States and Morocco.

On March 29, MCC's Board of Directors held its quarterly meeting and received a summary of the successful Kosovo Threshold Program, which improved energy access and reliability, and the Morocco compact that reformed the country's land and education sectors. 
MCC mourns the loss of former CEO Dana J. Hyde. Dana made history as MCC's first female CEO. Her expertise in international affairs and policy was instrumental in charting a new course for the agency, focusing on country-owned and country-led initiatives. We will forever remember Dana's remarkable contributions to MCC and her unwavering commitment to advancing its mission of reducing poverty through sustainable economic growth.
On March 9, the Biden-Harris Administration submitted the President's Budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 to Congress, which allocated $1,073 million for MCC to continue delivering on its mission to reduce poverty through inclusive economic growth in developing countries. Learn how the Specialized Institute of Building (SIB) in Casablanca, Morocco, is helping young women like Wafaa Mokhlis prepare for careers in the country's construction sectors. SIB is one of the 15 Technical and Vocational Education and Training centers funded by MCC and the Government of Morocco.
