National Transportation Atlas Database Fall 2017 Update

View it as a Web page.                                                                         DOT 92-17     National Transportation Atlas Database Fall 2017 Update   Friday, December 8, 2017 - The U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics has released the Fall 2017 update to the National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD) with three new datasets and 23 updated datasets. The NTAD is a compilation of geospatial datasets representing the nation's transportation infrastructure, including roadways, railways, and airports. The new datasets are (1) truck parking identifying more than 8,000 parking locations for truck drivers across the country using data compiled from information supplied by state departments of transportation and private truck stop operators; (2) the complete North American Rail Network (NARN), consisting of geospatial line rail information for the U.S., Canada and Mexico, which supports analysis relating to and around the rail infrastructure in the U.S.; and (3) the complete North American Rail Network (NARN) Nodes, which are the junctions (points) in the rail network and could support network analysis when used with the network. Also included in this version, are updates to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) data providing crash characteristics and environmental conditions at the time of the crash for more than 34,000 crashes in 2016, and US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) maritime ports data and waterway networks. The NTAD, including newly updated datasets, is available for download in Excel, Keyhole Markup Language (KML), and shapefile formats, through the BTS geospatial data catalog. Additionally, Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standard Web Feature Services (WFS) are available for most NTAD datasets. BTS now uses a dynamic NTAD publication cycle, making updated data available throughout the year when they become available from their respective government agencies.
